You Are My Sushine Sign

Let’s make a cheerful sunflower sign!

The video is in two parts because of a glitch! Click on them below to check out how to make this super cute project.

This craft was inspired by Lindsay Shaffer on Pinterest!

Here are the two videos!

Supplies I used:

Yellow fabric scraps: cotton, linen and burlap (the fabric you see on top is a Dollar Tree bandana)

Amazon: Scrabble letters Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Thrifted canning jar rings (large and small)

Dollar Tree canvas 11 X 14, twisted paper cord for stem

Wood shims from Home Depot or Lowes

Waverly Antique Wax

Hobby Lobby yellow beads (from a garlad) and natural wood color beads.

Let’s make it!

These wood shims are wide at one end and narrow at the other. I always alter them and it makes an interesting surface!

After you have determined how many shims you need for your canvas, just hot glue them down.

First, I wet the wood shims. Just a mist of water or paint brush will do.

I then used Waverly antique wax to stain my shims. You can rub some off with a wet paper towel if you want a lighter shade.

Set aside to dry or use your heat tool while you start working on the flower.

You’ll need strips of fabric about 8-10″ long. I usually cut about an inch into my fabric, then rip! If it’s too long, you can trim it later.

Loop around jar ring and pull the ends through the loop.

I added linen in between the yellow strips. Just keep adding strips until your “flower” is complete.

Now it’s time to cover the small ring, it’s going to be the center of your flower. I created mine as you see below, but you can use anything that fits inside your jar ring.

I cut a small piece of burlap (you can always trim it, but make sure you cut a square bit enough to cover all sides.)

Next, I put hot glue on the inside of the ring and pressed the burlap in. You may want to use some silicone finger covers for this step.

Last, I just secured all of the burlap with hot glue and smoothed it down. Now it’s time to add it to the flower!

I put hot glue on the outer edge.

And pressed it inside!

Now for the stem: I used two strands of macrame cord from Walmart, and kinda squiggled it along the surface to make it look a bit more natural.

TIP: some of our friends suggested using beads or braided cord for the stem!

I glued my sunflower on and gave it a trimmy-trim with my pinking shears.

This is twisted paper cord from Dollar Tree. It’s great for making leaves! And I also put a length of it over the macrame cord to make that stand out a bit more.

Scrabble letters for the win! These are from Amazon, and you can find them at my link here.(This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

I used a total of 14 natural and yellow beads for my hanger. Use an even amount so your project will hang evenly.

I used hot glue to adhere the twine to the back and then covered the twine with pieces of craft sticks to add some extra security.

This is such a happy sign, y’all! I love how it turned out!

Can you think of other sentiments you might use on your flower sign? Comment below and let me know!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

XOXO-Erin
