Hey girl, hey! This crate was thrifted for only $6.99! It’s one of those one-of-a-kind finds that you kinda have to get it when you see it, right? I couldn’t wait to get it painted and use some IOD (Iron Orchid Designs) rub on transfers and give it a full makeover!
Check out the video below, or follow along here for all the steps!

Supplies:
Lizzy and Erin Designs: Custom paint brushes
Milton’s Daughter: IOD transfers (Rose Botanicals and Fairy Tale Florals), Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: Liquid Sunshine and White Swan (mixed)
Let’s make it!
For the overall color, I wanted a soft yellow, so I mixed a little bit of Liquid Sunshine with mostly White Swan, both from Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint. You can see the difference in that bright yellow and after I mixed it, the soft, buttery yellow.
It’s not often I choose a yellow for the main color of a project, but this time it just seemed perfect for my crate.

The picture of that yellow sideboard from the IOD transfers is what inspired me to go with yellow. It’s so pretty, y’all!

I painted the inside first, then the outside with my Lil Hickabilly custom paint brush from our very own Lizzy and Erin Designs! These brushes are perfect for jobs like this.

Next, I dried the paint and then sanded it just enough to make it rustic.
TIP: Be sure to work outside and wear eye protection and a mask when sanding.

After painting and sanding!

I’m using the Fairy Tale Florals and also Rose Botanicals rub ons from Milton’s Daughter, and y’all, it is absolutely beautiful!
These transfers are on a grid sheet that is tacky enough to stay in position while applying the design to your project, but lift off easily when you’re ready. They come with a plastic tool to use for easy transfer. They are perfect for furniture, but you can use them on tons of other things. You can even just cut a section of a design for smaller projects!

I added this to one end.

And finished it like this:

Y’all have to check out these IOD transfers! They are absolutely beautiful, and can give new life to old treasures. Let me know in the comments how you would use yours! I appreciate each and every one of you.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
XOXO-Erin
