Upcycling A Thrifted Stool

Hey girl, hey! I usually do Thrifty Thursdays each week, but today was just too pretty outside! Y’all know I’ve been waiting on some beautiful weather, and here it is. So instead of shopping indoors, I am going to upcycle this red stool and enjoy the bright sunshine.

I’ll use it as a plant stand or something like that since we had to repair it and it’s not super sturdy. It was only five dollars, so you just can’t go wrong with such a find!

Check out the video below for all the details, and I’ll add a few pictures here also.

Supplies:

Lizzy and Erin Designs: Lil’ Hickabilly paint brush

Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store: Red stool (that needed repair!)

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: Mint Chip, IOD stamps

Amazon: Sanding sponge Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Let’s make it!

See the unpainted rungs? Yep, those are the ones we had to replace.

I used Mint Chip and my Lil’ Hickabilly paintbrush to transform this into a great farmhouse piece! The Lil’ Hickabilly paintbrush is a must when you’re painting furniture. Click here to check out our paint brushes.

I’m painting it from the bottom to the top.

Meanwhile, the chickens are all over the yard, but check out the ducks! Here’s our Quack Pack: Tanya, Frank and Waddles. Tanya and Frank are a couple, Waddles is volunteer security.

I’m going for a rustic, chippy finish on this stool, so I’ll be sanding it down back to bring out some of the red.

Look at that rustic coming through!

Our friends suggested I brush a little red onto the rungs that we replaced. Good call!

These stamps are from Iron Orchid Designs and you can see them by clicking here.

I used red paint on the big rooster stamp, then placed it onto the stool.

Y’all, I’m new to this stamping thing, and the way this turned out makes it look weathered and worn. My surface isn’t flat, and I didn’t prep my stamps by sanding them first. Oh well, I’m going with it!

I finished it with some florals around the rooster and even though he didn’t come out like I wanted, I really do like the worn effect!

These stamps are amazing, y’all… I tried them first on paper and they are absolutely perfect! I just goofed a little!

I hope y’all enjoyed this project, and are inspired to try one of your own!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
