Thrifted Chairs Makeover

Hey y’all, hey! I’m pretty excited over this super simple makeover! I love to take something old and give it new life, don’t you? Makeovers are half the fun of thrifting!

Check out the video below or follow along for all the steps!

While I do love the color of these (they were already painted when I thrifted them), I want to use them at the barn in our backyard and this color really doesn’t go with what I’m planning. We have a lot of neutrals like white, black and gray in our yard, so I’d like a sitting area that kinda blends in.

Here’s the barn where I’m going to make a sitting area with the newly painted chairs. You can see how that pool sticks out like a sore thumb, so the chairs definitely would also.

Supplies:

Home Depot or Lowes: Rust-oleum Painter’s Touch 2X Ultra Cover for wood, plastic, metal and more. It’s fast drying and can be used for indoor or outdoor.

Thrifted: Chairs (These were $25 each)

Before we begin, here are instruction directly from the Rust-Oleum website:

Spray painting, when done properly, is a great way to finish a project quickly. It’s also useful for painting objects that have a variety of angles or corners that can’t be accessed easily by a brush.

Always spray paint outdoors or in a well-ventilated area such as an open garage. And avoid spray painting in windy or dusty conditions. Make sure to cover the surrounding area to protect from spray mist – use a drop cloth for larger objects, or newspaper for smaller objects. You can also turn a cardboard box on its side and create a handy spray booth.

Follow the instructions on the product can regarding preparing the can for painting. Typically, this means shaking the can for one minute after the mixing ball inside begins to rattle. And shake the can often during use to keep the paint properly mixed. Also check the instructions for the recommended distance from the surface being painted.

It’s important to keep the can the same distance from the surface to ensure proper coverage and a smooth, even finish without overspraying. Spray in a steady, back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. And keep the can in motion while spraying to avoid drips.

Let’s make it!

I made sure the chairs were clean and free of price tags / stickers, followed the instructions and just started spray painting!

Here’s the first chair all finished! Wow! That was quick!

Now on to the next one!

Y’all, all I had to do was clean them up a bit and spray paint them. Easy, peasy and boom! They have a whole new life!

I hope you’re inspired to give new life to something old! Check out your thrift stores, or even just redo something you already have! Let me know in the comments what you think! I appreciate each and every one of you.

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
