Hey y’all, hey! Check out the curves on this beauty! I’ve had her in my carport for maybe two years, but I’m finally getting to refinishing and making this an even more beautiful buffet / dresser. Of course, we are no longer stuck with the idea of using furniture pieces as they were intended, so she can become anything we want! Your refinished finds might find a place in the kitchen, the living room or even an art studio. This one is going in my living room under the TV.
Check out the videos below or follow along here for all the steps.
By the way, we have a link to painting furniture, just click HERE!
Here’s the BEFORE, as seen in the thrift store!

Supplies:

Lizzy and Erin Designs: Custom Lil Hickabilly paint brush
Amazon: Apple Barrel paint, Waverly Antique Wax, sanding sponge, Rub n Buff Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)
Habitat for Humanity: Vintage dresser, Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines clear furniture wax
Lowes / Home Depot: TSP, you can buy this in a powder to mix or buy it premixed.
Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint: White Swan, Faded Burlap, Dark and Decrepit
I didn’t even know I’d stored three of these in a drawer! There’s no telling what else I might find!

Let’s make it!
Video 1: Hardware and prep!
Today we are just going to prep it. I’ll take the hardware off and do the sanding and cleaning after the first video. It’s hot out here today! And by the way, I love it when I find a piece that has the original hardware, y’all.
To clean it, I’m using TSP. It comes in a powder and I mixed it with water and put it in a spray bottle. I’ll paint it after, and right now I’m thinking of painting it white with a brown top. Will see!

By the way, that stack of pumpkins over there… I spray painted them flat black and I’m planning on doing a gold and white design on them. I rarely spray paint, but these were calling to be sprayed!

Video 2: Painting!
Y’all, whoever had this took good care of it. I wiped out the inside because it’s been sitting in my carport for two years! I mixed two paints from Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint from Milton’s Daughter: White Swan and Faded Burlap to get a creamy white color. I’m using my Custom Lizzy and Erin Designs Lil Hickabilly paintbrush.
I painted two coats on, and also painting over the gold trim. I might come back with a white accent trim.

Video 3: Sanded and touching up
I started with 220 grit sand paper on my orbital sander. It got a bit carried away and some of the yellow paint is showing, so I used my sanding sponge for the rest. My husband Dave patched a divot on the top with a mix of super glue and baking soda, and it doesn’t look smooth on video, but it is!
The hardware: it was gold with some white on it, so I painted it black, then Waverly Antique Wax over the black. Next, I used a napkin to remove some of the Waverly and revealed some of the gold. It looks like I used Rub n Buff but it’s the gold that was already there!
I just had to add one of the drawer pulls to see how it looks, and y’all. She’s going to be beautiful! Imagine the dark top and the dark hardware coming all together!

Video 4: Finishing!
I’m so excited about this project! I found some furniture wax at Habitat for Humanity’s thrift store, and it’s Magnolia Home clear wax by Joanna Gaines, so I thought I’d try it. I really like it!
Let’s talk about the top. I used Faded Burlap for the base coat and added Dark and Decrepit plus a bit of Waverly Antique Wax and spritzed it with my water spritzer. You can see the result in the second image. It’s not finished because it’s all streaky, but I really like the color, y’all!
I use an old white sock to apply the wax, it helps to distribute large areas and also get into the nooks and crannies, and white because colors might leave lint behind. Next, I put the hardware back on.

I had to sand those doors a little, just because they were stuck and needed a trimmy-trim! I wiped the whole piece down with a soft cloth, and I’ll finish the top with a polycrylic sealer. Polycrylic instead of polyurethane because the polyurethane tends to yellow.

From this to this! She’s beautiful, girl!
