Sweet Button Angel

Hey y’all, hey! This is third in a series of button projects for Christmas! I’m enjoying these so much, and the first one I made, an ornament, WAS my favorite, but then came the tree and THAT one became my favorite. Today we are making this sweet angel and girl, she is my favorite now!

Check out the video below, or follow along here on the blog for all the steps!

Supplies:

Amazon: Yooho Paint Pens, wood star, Antique Gold Rub ‘n Buff, Mod Podge, Deco Art Chalkboard Paint, sanding sponge Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint: White Swan

Stash: Buttons, framed surface, cardboard, hymnal sheet

Goodwill Outlet Bins: Triangle doilies

Dollar Tree: Wall tile, wood round, wood cube, Tumbling Tower Game blocks (like little Jenga blocks)

Let’s make it!

I drew a body on a piece of cardboard, just guessing on the shape, but it kinda looks like a bowling pin! Then I glued on the first layer of buttons, using a lot of white ones.

I’ll use these thrifted triangle doilies for the wings because they are just perfect for an angel!

I painted the Dollar Tree tiles with two coats of black paint (I cut a little extra piece to fit my surface) and dried them with my heat tool.

Next I sanded it a little with my sanding sponge to bring out the silver of the tile, and hot glued the tiles to my surface.

TIP: Don’t overheat the tiles. They are plastic and will melt, so keep the heat tool moving!

I added layers of buttons to the angel, then painted the edges with White Swan. I used the same brush to put an almost dry brushed coat over the buttons. I used a tiny brush to add white to any spaces not completely covered with buttons, and she’s already so pretty!

I used a wood round for the head, painted it white, then used Mod Podge to add a piece of hymnal sheet as a background. I dabbed some pink paint on my table and just rubbed it on with my fingertip to give her some pink cheeks.

Y’all know faces aren’t my strong point, but I have this other angel to inspire me! Our friend Michelle Merryman walked me through making her face, so I decided to try it again.

I also put some Antique Gold Rub ‘n Buff on my table and dabbed it with my finger over the buttons and along the edge. I also added some gold around her face.

I hot glued Tumbling Tower Game blocks on the body to raise her up from the surface, and added a wood cube (a little taller than the blocks) behind her head. I hot glued the pieces to my surface, then added the wings (also with hot glue).

The halo: I cut about a 1/4″ strip of hymnal sheet and hot glued a piece of wire along the center of it. I rolled it and hot glued the ends together. The extra wire is the stem of the halo.

I added some Rub ‘n Buff around the edges, then set it aside until I added her hair.

Her hair is made with pieces of a glittery sprig that was in my stash. I just glued it on with hot glue, but it would have been a lot easier if I’d added it before gluing the head on!

TIP: Put the sides of her hair on first, then add the top. (See below.)

I added the halo to the angel by putting a dot of hot glue on the paper part, and tucked the wire under her head. (The head is glued on with a cube, so there is room underneath to tuck it in.)

I made arms by rolling up two strips of hymnal sheet and then hot glued them onto the angel. I just tucked the paper underneath where her shoulders would be. (Again, she is elevated on the surface.) Our friends suggested she hold a heart, candle or star. We went with a star, and I painted it black, then sanded it just a little. Next, I added Rub ‘n Buff to the edges and glued on a tiny stick so she could hold the star. I added some stain to the stick to help it stand out, then hot glued it over the “hands” part of the arms.

I think I love her! She is so pretty, y’all! I hope you make one for your home or to give as a gift!

Here are the trio of button crafts! The ornament was first (click HERE to see the blog), followed by the Christmas tree (click HERE) and then our angel from today!

I hope you enjoyed our button projects! I sure enjoyed making them. Let me know in the comments which is your favorite! I appreciate each and every one of you.

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO=Erin
