Sunflowers From The August Woodshop Release!

Hey girl, hey! Today we are crafting with TWO releases from the Lizzy and Erin Woodshop! I couldn’t decide which one to create with, so I made both! It’s going to be a fun sunflower crafting event, so check out the video below or just follow along here for all the steps. And you can see all of the release on the video! You can get your very own sunflower projects along with all the other releases by clicking here!

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: Gravel Road

Y’all, every month, we release new and fun designs from our Lizzy and Erin Woodshop, and I share a project or two live on Facebook all during the first week of the month! (We also do giveaways!) Be sure to check in on the video to see a preview of this month’s release!

Let’s make it!

We are crafting with the “You are my Sunshine” and the “Watering Can Sunflowers” kits from our Woodshop. I’m using the Deco Earth reclaimed acrylic paint in a variety of colors. These paints are 70 percent reclaimed, which helps the environment!

Colors I used: White, Maritime Blue, greens and yellows.

I painted both surfaces, one white, one blue. You can see the etched design on the blue one, which helps to place all the pieces.

TIP: Paint the sides!

I painted the words white, then painted the word “Sunshine” with a mix of Dandelion and White from Deco Earth, just to mute the color a bit. Once the blue was dry, I used my sanding sponge on the base and also words to rustic it up a bit.

TIP: Place your letters / words / designs on a piece of tape to make painting them easier!

IMPORTANT: For the watering can: This is important if you get the kit! The sunflowers are sized large, medium and small, and the center rings are sized specifically to each one. There is an etching to see where to place them. The leaves fit like a puzzle.

TIP: When you receive your kit, everything is lined up. They are packaged just as they will fit together, so maybe take a picture with your phone to refer to as you’re placing the flowers and leaves.

I painted the flowers and leaves, then wanted to make the watering can appear to be galvanized. I used a combination of chalkboard paint, Folk Art metallic, Milton’s Daughter Gravel Road, and white.

I started with Gravel Road for the base color, then I put dots of black, gray and white on my work surface and mixed it with my paintbrush. I just pounced the color on to get the galvanized effect. As you’re learning this technique, you can always paint over it and try again. I used the metallic silver last, just pounced it on like before. The silver gives it just the right amount of shine!

TIP: Paint the gray high up between the flowers (Image 3).

I painted the flower centers with Waverly Antique Wax, then used my sanding sponge to give a rustic effect to the flowers and leaves. I painted the heart white, then glued everything with DAP Rapid Fuse glue. I used clothespins to hold the pieces on while the glue dries.

I used my Posca paint pens to put some accents on my flowers, and badabing! They are done! They turned out so stinkin’ cute!

It was so hard to choose which one to do first, y’all! Let me know in the comments which is your favorite! I appreciate all of your comments.

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
