Hey girl, hey! It’s St. Patty’s Day today and I’m creating with quilt top pieces! Y’all know the umbrella I made last week? (Click HERE to see it!) Well, I still have some scraps, and we are going to make them BLOOM! Check out the video below, or follow along here on the blog for all the steps!

Today’s project!

Supplies:

Michaels Grab Bag Boxes: “Welcome” sign
Dollar Tree: Round plastic serving platter, Tumbling Tower Game Blocks (like Jenga blocks)
Stash: Quilt top pieces, scrap rail from a rocking chair, raffia, ABC blocks, berry garland
Amazon: Loctite Spray Adhesive, Micro Sanding Tool, Deco Earth Paint: Cool Gray and Jade Green, Waverly White Wax, Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)
Let’s make it! (And dance for a minute!)

I pulled the “Welcome” layer from the Michael’s sign, and I might use it in the chicken coop! We have new baby chicks and ducks, so they would probably love a “Welcome” in their new home, right?
Next, I pulled up as much of the blue checked paper as I could, then sanded down the rest. We are going to paint over it, so it’s ok! I painted three coats of Waverly White Wax, drying with my heat tool in between coats. Next, I used a palette knife to spread streaks of Deco Earth’s Cool Gray along the surface, then dried it.
I used regular masking tape to mask off the surface, then Deco Earth’s Jade Green to paint the frame pieces and dried it with my heat tool.

Let’s make the flower!
I’m using a scrap rail for the flower stem. It is leftover from an old rocking chair I had outside. I used a Dollar Tree plastic plate for the base of the flower. I sprayed Loctite spray adhesive onto the plate, then hand pressed on the quilt top. The next layer of the flower is a cork circle, smaller than the plate. I traced it around with a Sharpie marker cut the circle, and glued it onto the cork with the spray adhesive.

I used paper doilies between the layers, large on the plate, smaller on the cork circle. I also sanded the edges of the flower parts to fray them a little. Next, I found a mini tart pan to put in the center.

I used hot glue and E6000 to glue them together. Hot glue holds quickly, while E6000 hold permanently. Our friends on my live suggested using a thin strip and twisting it to create a center for the flower, and it looks great!
I added “leaves” by cutting leaf shapes out of the fabric and hot gluing pipe cleaners to the back so I could shape them. I used hot glue and E6000 to glue the wood rail to the surface, and the same process to glue ABC blocks to raise the flower up. I needed a bit more height beneath the flower, so I added a Dollar Tree Tumbling Tower Block (like a little jenga block) on top of the ABC ones.
I shaped the leaves, added some berry garland and raffia, and it’s done!

Here are two I made previously. Click on each one to see the blog post!
