Spooky Halloween Tree

Hey y’all, hey! Today we are making this spooky (and super cute!) Halloween tree! You can make this with almost all supplies from Dollar Tree. My assistant Judie requested it, so we are doing it!

Check out the videos below (there are two because I lost sound) or follow along here on the blog for all the steps.

Supplies:

Dollar Tree: Two Halloween trees, Halloween picks and ornaments, mesh tulle

Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store: New paint can

Hobby Lobby: Scrapbook paper

Amazon: Mod Podge, zip ties Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Let’s make it!

The paint can came from Habitat for Humanity Thrift store. I’m going to cover it with scrapbook paper, but you can do a spooky scene or use fabric, or whatever you want!

The picks will be on the top of the tree! I can’t wait to get to that part. It will be so cute!

I put Mod Podge onto the paint can, then wrapped it with my scrapbooking paper. I had to cut the paper down to fit, and I made sure my stripes would match up.

The little bumps on either side of the can are for the handle. I just used my Xacto knife to make an “X” over the bumps and then put Mod Podge over the cut paper. Once it was dry I trimmed the paper from around the bumps.

Next, I painted Mod Podge over the paper, then I dried the can with my heat tool. Be careful, metal gets hot!

I fluffed up the trees, but left one side flat on both so I could put them together with zip ties to make one full tree.

About these lights:

Y’all. I picked up these Halloween lights at Dollar Tree and now I wish I’d gotten two strands of battery operated lights. These are plug ins, and there really needs to be more bulbs, so two strands would be better.

TIP: Drill a hole in the can for the cord or your battery pack to go through.

I put the ornaments on with hot glue and added eyeball ornaments on the front and back.

I was seriously on the mesh struggle bus! But all you have to do is just cut a piece of each color, roll it and pull the ends out, making a tube. Then gather it in the middle, and use a zip tie to attach to the branch and also close the pinched end.

You can also layer the mesh with the green sandwiched in between two purples.

I filled the can with paper and stuffed the tree stems inside. You may want to put some rocks in the bottom of your can, depending on how heavy your tree is.

TIP: Use floral foam or Styrofoam in the can to make the tree more sturdy.

I hope you enjoyed this craft and will try one for yourself! Let me know in the comments how you might style the paint can. Will you paint yours or use fabric or decals? I appreciate each and every comment!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
