Spooky Fun Witch Hat Wreath

Hey y’all hey! I saw this wreath / door hanger on TikTok and just had to try it! Now y’all need to know I’m not a wreath maker, but this was so doggone cute I decided to give it my best shot.

Supplies:

Dollar Tree: Wire hat form, decorative mesh, tulle, mesh tube, gauze (“Creepy Cloth”), long pipe cleaners, purple flower, orange lights.

Hobby Lobby: PolyFill

Tip: A friend suggested buying a pillow from Dollar Tree to use instead of PolyFill. Great idea!

Let’s make it!

Here’s the wire hat form, y’all. We will use this as the base of the project.

Tip: One of our friends suggested making a scarecrow hat with it. Another great idea!

I began by hot gluing the gauze to the wire form, then wrapped it around until I had covered all except for the brim.

I added a bit of glue here and there as needed, just to make the gauze stay where I wanted it to go.

For the bows:

I cut lengths of mesh just long enough to be fluffed when placed together.

I then put the pieces in a stack, added some of the orange mesh tubing, then tied them in the center with a pipe cleaner.

Sounds simple, right? Girl, I was hangin’ on to the bumper of the struggle bus. And now I can honestly say I really admire all of the fluffy-mesh-bow makers out there! This stuff was curling up and sticking to everything! At first I was leaving the mesh on the rolls, but our friends suggested just cutting the pieces and stacking them. Whew! But y’all, the result was definitely worth the learning curve!

I attached my mesh bows onto the hat frame using the ends of the pipe cleaners, and then just twisted the ends onto the metal. They filled up the hat brim nicely!

Tip: Use some hot glue on the back of each one to keep them in place.

The legs from Dollar Tree are flat, so I wanted to stuff them and give them some shape.

I just cut an opening along the side of each one and used my paint brush to push the stuffing down.

I used hot glue to close up the opening.

This witch needed a spider! I didn’t have one so I made this out of pipe cleaners.

I just twisted one into a circle for the body, then cut a second one so it would be smaller, and attached it for the head.

A few snips and hot glue later, and we have some legs.

I don’t love it, so I’ll probably find a plastic one at the Dollar Tree and add that later.

I also added the purple flower at the edge of the brim.

To finish, I placed some orange lights in the mesh bows.

These are Dollar Tree lights and the string is kinda short, so you may want two sets. There’s also a little battery pack, and I just hot glued it to the back, being very careful not to get the hot glue on the string of lights.

And boom-chakka-lakka, we have a cute, light-up witch for the door!

I sure enjoyed learning how to work with this mesh! And how cute is this project, y’all? Let me know in the comments what you think! I appreciate each and every one of you.

XOXO-Erin
