Rusty Saws Christmas Tree

Hey girl, hey! How about taking two rusty saws and turning them into a Christmas tree? Can’t get more rustic than this, right? I’ve seen these on Pinterest for years and I wanted to try making one. Check out the video below or follow along here on the blog, and see how it turned out!

Supplies:

Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store: Two rusty saws (mine were $2.50 each)

Also thrifted: Star (Goodwill Outlet Bins), tin (for base),

Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: Old School (gray)

Amazon: Craft sticks, Mod Podge, E-6000 Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Dollar Tree: Tumbling Tower Game blocks, LED lights

Stash: Red sequined trim, rusty snowflakes

Let’s make it!

I’m using E-6000 and hot glue on craft sticks to join the saws. The E-6000 has a strong hold but takes hours to set up, while the hot glue sets up right away.

Notice the blue tape along the sharp edges… the tape was there when I bought the saws, and it is doing a good job of securing the sharp sides. I’m going to leave it on and just paint over it.

After I painted the taped edges, I ended up painting the whole “tree” so the finish would be consistent.

I used Old School by Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint.

I wanted to recreate the rustic look, so I dabbed Waverly Antique Wax over the gray…

… and then I painted Mod Podge onto a small section and sprinkled cinnamon over it.

Then I dabbed the paintbrush (it still has Waverly on it) over the cinnamon to calm down the orange color of the cinnamon. I repeated this step in sections.

Just keep with the cinnamon / Mod Podge until you get the result you like!

I used E-6000 and hot glue to hold the star on, and added two blocks (Dollar Tree) to keep it secure.

To finish, I added a strand of sequined trim and some rusty snowflakes. I decided to use glitter on those round elements on the star, and it really picks up the shiny sequins!

Mr. Erin Is going to help me with a stand made from a spindle and some concrete in that green GEM tin.

Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever made one of these. I’m so happy with how it turned out!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
