Rustic Button Flag Wall Art

Hey girl, hey! I’m super excited today for this button craft! It’s so easy with just buttons, some fabric scraps, a stick and whatever you’d like to add for this fun project!

We’ve made button Christmas ornaments, an angel, a Christmas tree, and even a pumpkin, but we haven’t done a flag…yet!

Supplies:

Lizzy and Erin Designs: Home for the Holidays truck sign

Amazon: Tacks, Waverly Antique Wax, Mod Podge, Ranger Ground Espresso Ink, Gold leaf flakes, Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Stash / thrifted: ribbon, buttons, bead, fabric scraps, music sheets

Let’s make it!

I used Mod Podge to cover the surface, then added my song sheets. I pieced them around full sized sheets by cutting some down a bit. Once they were on I just covered them with more Mod Podge.

I watered down Waverly Antique Wax and painted over the song sheets to add some rustic / vintage effects.

I placed my buttons before gluing them on, just to be sure where I wanted them. I wanted the flag to wave a little, so I created a curve in the stripes. I stacked the blue buttons with tiny white ones for the “stars”, then decided that image on the song sheet kinda needed to go, so I covered it with another piece of music and stained it a bit. I used scrap pieces of fabric to back the “In God We Trust”, which I had already stamped on muslin with my Ground Espresso ink. I frayed the edges after hot gluing the muslin on it.

I added a banner using patriotic ribbon, alternating the colors, and a stick for the pole with a bead on the top. I added little wood stars to the blue banner pieces, and glued them onto twine. I hammered tacks onto the corners and glued the twine around them.

Y’all, we need to make more banners! I love this!

And here is our rustic flag! Y’all, check out the music: “The Stars and Stripes Forever” is at the top and just below the flag is “Rally Round the Flag”! And “In God We Trust” is just a perfect addition to our craft! I stinkin’ love it, you guys!

Let me know in the comments if you have crafted with buttons! It’s so much fun creating with them. I appreciate each and every comment!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
