Primitive Carrot Craft For Spring!

Hey girl, hey! Here’s a fun project to make using what might otherwise be just neglected pieces of wood! A few touches of craftiness turned them into unique and primitive spring decor!

Check out the video below or follow along here for all the steps!

Supplies:

Amazon: Waverly Antique Wax, Deco Earth paint: Orange, Gator Micro Zip sanding tool Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Stash: Wood pieces from an old rocking chair, raffia

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint Faded Burlap

Dollar Tree: Fabric strip, coin envelopes (for the little tag)

Michael’s Grab Bag Box: “Pie” sign for the surface

Thrifted: Greenery

Let’s make it!

I started out by preparing the surface. I removed the little metal apple from the sign, then sanded down with a Gator Microzip Sander (It has an ergonomic handle!) on the surface to rough it up a bit and make it better to hold paint.

I used two coats of faded burlap from Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint to cover the surface, then dried it with my heat tool. I kept the red line that goes around the image and didn’t paint over it.

I used burlap for the background, and just trimmed it to fit a bit smaller than the surface. Then I frayed the edges by pulling a few strings out, and hot glued it to the surface.

These wood pieces are so perfectly aged for this craft! They came from an old rocking chair that was on my porch! Who knew they would be carrots some day?

I used orange paint from Deco Earth to create a stained effect by painting, then wiping the paint off with a paper towel. Next, I dried them with my heat tool.

I used hot glue to attach the carrots, and positioned them into a bundle.

I added some greenery, ribbon, raffia and a tag. To make the tag rustic and dirty looking, I just scrunched up a piece of paper, cut it into a tag shape (I used pinking shears), spritzed it with water and stained it with a light coat of Waverly Antique Wax. I dried it with my heat tool hand wrote “Market Fresh” and “.25 bundle” on the tag, then put twine on it and glued it in place.

I hammered tacks on each corner of the sign.

TIP: Our friends on the live suggested sayings for the tag: “Garden Fresh”, “Organic”, “Bunny Treats” and “Home Grown”. Great suggestions!

Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever crafted with some old forgotten wood pieces! I’d love to know what YOU have created! I appreciate each and every one of you.

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
