Primitive Americana Popsicle Craft

Hey y’all, hey! I LOVE the primitive style and even though I’m not always good at it, I wanted to try my hand at a primitive Americana craft.

Check out the video below, or follow along here for all the steps!

Patriotic, craft, Americana, dollar tree, USA

Supplies:

Dollar Tree: Popsicle tray, metal flower, blue plaid fabric, small wood rounds

Amazon: E-6000, DAP Rapid Fuse glue, Mod Podge, Rusty stars, Scrabble letters Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: White Swan

Hobby Lobby: Ranger Ground Espresso ink, Apple Barrel brown paint, berry garland

Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store: Thin wood strip (might be balsa wood)

Stash: Cardboard, fabric, surface, raffia (Our friend Ms. Gina sent the white fabric to me)

TIP: You don’t “have” to have the popsicle tray, just cut the shape from cardboard and use that!

Let’s make it!

I started with a piece of cardboard that I cut to fit inside my surface. This is corrugated, so all I had to do was spray one side with my water mister and wait a few minutes, then peel that layer off. This technique makes a great background for all kinds of crafting!

We will use this metal flower that came off of something like a Dollar Tree yard stake.

I used my hot glue gun to adhere each strip of fabric to the popsicle, then wrapped it around back and glued the edges for a more finished look.

I used two layers of the white so the eyelets would be more visible, and then added the red.

This wood is super thin and I could actually cut it with scissors. I made the little wood handle with it, and used DAP Rapid Fuse to adhere it to the popsicle.

TIP: If you don’t have a piece of wood you can cut, just use a craft stick or even painted cardboard. This wood might be balsa wood, I’m not sure.

I added Mod Podge to my brown paint and painted the white petals, then wiped most of it off. Next I used pieces of berry garland and twisted them around a wood handle. You can use a pencil or anything tubular shaped to curl the wire.

I added raffia and then popped up the metal flower with two wood rounds, then added one more to the center of the flower.

I used my Ranger Ground Espresso ink to distress the edges of the Scrabble tiles.

Y’all say “hey!” to Judie! She’s my assistant and she’s moving soon. We are so sad she won’t be here in person, BUT she will still be working for us, so watch for her comments on my live videos!

I painted the background (because Judie said to!) with Debi’s Design Diary White Swan, then dried it with my heat tool.

I hot glued the popsicle, two rusty stars and the Scrabble letters (all from Amazon) to the surface.

And y’all! I love how this turned out!

Let me know in the comments what you think of today’s project and how you might style yours! I appreciate each and every one of you!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
