Patriotic Rice Paper Project

Y’all, I’m so excited about this project! I received this rice paper flag in some happy mail from Lori at Milton’s Daughter, and I couldn’t wait to use it. Check out the video below, or follow along here on the blog to see how this came together!

Supplies:

Milton’s Daughter: Rice paper print, Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint: Old and Grey, White Swan, French Millinery. Use code LIZZYERIN10 for 10% off of the rice paper print.

Dollar Tree: 11X14 canvas, sanding sponge

Amazon: Mod Podge, X-acto knife Click here to check out my favorite crafting supplies (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Goodwill Outlet: Wood frame (it was only .25 y’all!)

Walmart: Waverly Antique Wax

Let’s make it!

I cut my canvas down to fit in the frame. I just used my X-acto knife (If you need one, just click on the Amazon link above!)

I was thinking about using these flakes around the edges of my print, but I ended up using paint instead. If you want to use the flakes, they’re from Dollar Tree. Just Mod Podge and press them on. They are very lightweight, so you may not want to have a fan on while using them!

I painted two coats of White Swan onto the frame, drying it in between. You can set yours aside to dry or use a heat tool.

I used a Dollar Tree sanding sponge to sand down a bit on the frame. It’s gonna look gorgeous, y’all!

I tried a few different paints and stains on the canvas, but finally decided on Old Grey and French Millinery, thanks to suggestions from some of our friends who were watching my live!

I used a damp paper towel to buff off some of the Waverly Antique Wax that I ended up painting over. The struggle is real sometimes, y’all!

TIP: Instead of painting your background, Mod Podge some music sheets on. This was a great suggestion from another one of our friends!

I painted Mod Podge on and positioned my paper.

TIP: Quickly double check how the design looks in the frame while your Mod Podge is still wet. You can adjust it if you need to.

I used hot glue before and after installing the canvas board. I always make sure I have a good, secure hold once the project is in the frame. More hot glue? No problem! Just add more!

I just love the way this turned out!

Let me know in the comments what you think! Have you worked with rice paper before? I really enjoy the result!

Thanks for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
