Patriotic Barn Quilt Sign

Hey girl, hey! I got so inspired from a Pinterest post with a barn quilt that I decided to make one with cardboard and fabric. Y’all know Dollar Tree, scraps and thrifted supplies came into play, right? And check this out: we are going to release the May 2025 Woodshop products starting Monday, May 5! Be sure to tune in HERE for all the fun as well as giveaways!

Watch the video below, or follow along here on the blog to see how to create your own. Mine is patriotic, but it would also be so cute in various colors and prints!

Supplies:

Stash: Cardboard

Walmart: Bandana

Goodwill Outlet bins: Music sheets

Dollar Tree: 12X12 framed pumpkin print (from fall), fabric, ribbon

Amazon: Gator Microzip Sander, Mod Podge Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Let’s make it!

I used cardboard to create the star pattern, and freehanded the design to make sure it would fit on my surface. I used the first cutout as the template for the remaining three points.

I decided to cut them in half, lengthwise, and number the back of each one for alternating colors. I used Mod Podge to adhere the fabric to the cardboard, trimmed the edges and put more Mod Podge along the edges to seal them. My pieces measure 4″ X 1 3/4″ and the frame is 12X12.

I removed the checkered surface from the frame and pulled the little nails from it. I painted on a coat of Mod Podge and placed my music sheets on it. I added Mod Podge to the areas where the paper overlapped, then dried it with my heat tool. I sanded the edges with my Gator Microzip sander to remove the excess papers.

So far, so good!

I continued adding the various points until the pattern was filled. I needed to repair the frame, but I glued the pieces onto the surface and framed it once the repair was done.

By the way, I thought I’d cut some flowers from the yard and make an arrangement. It isn’t too bad, but y’all, I thought it couldn’t be very difficult, but I stand corrected! It looks good on ONE side, but that other needs some love! Y’all appreciate your florists! They have some serious talent!

Let me know in the comments what you think of our patriotic star! What colors would you use for yours? Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
