Lacy Christmas Tree DIY

Hey girl, hey! Sometimes when crafting, you just want your friends to chime in with suggestions, and that’s what we did today. I considered so many different ways to create this, but we all climbed on that struggle bus and soon as that door swished closed, we were on our way! One thing that was easy peasy was starting with this Ornate Oval Frame from our Lizzy and Erin Woodshop. It’s just beautiful!

Check out the video below or follow along here on the blog to see how it came together.

Supplies:

Lizzy and Erin Woodshop: Ornate Oval Frame: 22″ X 17″

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint: Gypsy Green, White Swan, Dark and Decrepit

Amazon: Waverly Antique Wax, Gator Microzip Sander, rusty stars Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Stash: Lace pieces, cardboard, wooden spool

Let’s make it!

I thought I’d put gold in the insets but we all decided to continue with the Gypsy Green and then give it a whitewash. I painted over the gold and added a little water to some White Swan. I painted it on, then rubbed most of it off just to add the whitewash effect.

We also decided on a dark background, so I used Dark and Decrepit. I painted the inside edge with a small brush and finished with a larger one, then dried it with my heat tool. I sanded it down a bit with my Gator Microzip sander to distress it, sanding more on the shiplap lines to bring them out a bit.

I cut cardboard into a tree shape that would fit the oval, then cut pieces of lace to cover the tree. I used hot glue to adhere the lace, then trimmed the excess.

I used a rusty star (from Amazon, linked above) and painted a little black over it, then sanded it a bit. I used Waverly Antique Wax (watered down) to stain the wooden spool. The spool was too dark so I sanded it, and I liked that better. My friends suggested that I darken the detail in the frame, so I dry brushed Waverly into the pattern and dried it with my heat tool.

I hot glued the tree and spool to the surface.

And we’re done! Here she is with two others I made.

I’m giving my friends an A+ on the color choices, y’all! Let me know in the comments what colors you might use. I appreciate all of you!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
