Hey girl, hey! We are going to makeover an Easter decoration and turn it into a festive July 4 parade truck! There are two videos, one for the truck and one for the sign, only because I am trying to get ready for a trip. Y’all come on over and check out the videos below or just follow along here for all the steps.

Supplies:

Ross Dress For Less: Easter truck sign (a few years ago for $7.99)
Amazon: Rusty stars, sanding sponge, Ranger Distress Oxide Ground Espresso ink, Stick Fast glue, Gator MicroZip sander, Waverly Antique Wax Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Hobby Lobby: Flag cupcake picks
Stash: Fabric
Let’s make it!
Video:1
To begin with, I pulled all of the pieces off and saved some of them to use in the makeover. I’m thinking of making that metal trim all rusty and old looking.

I sanded the truck so it would hold fresh paint. I used Marquee (red) from Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint, avoiding the tires so they will stay black. I did use a small brush to paint just above the tires.
I used Waverly Antique Wax to add a rust effect to the metal trim, then wiped it down with a paper towel. I did the same for the truck. Next I used Stick Fast glue to adhere the trim onto the truck and placed “weights” and clothes pins to hold it until the glue dried.

I used the existing banner to create the July 4 banner with fabric. I traced the pennant shapes and just cut them out with red, white and blue ticking then hot glued them on.

Our friends suggested putting “USA” and rusty stars on the banner, and that was a great idea! I also used my Ground Espresso ink to add more “age” to the truck, then wiped it down with a paper towel.

Video #2: Finishing up!
I needed to cover the “Easter”, and this board was thirsty, y’all! I used three coats of White Swan, drying with my heat tool in between. Then I sanded it just a bit with my sanding sponge.

I painted my letters by placing them on masking tape, sticky side up. Then I dried them with my heat tool They were a little bright, so I used a paper towel to dab Waverly Antique Wax on them, which added some age. I also used my Ranger Ground Espresso ink pad to age the edges of the sign.

I trimmed the ends of the flower picks and used hot glue and fabric strips to put them onto the truck (they will look like they are in the back / bed of the truck). I added the fabric so they would stay in place. I tried staples earlier, but mine are too long, so glue it is!
I used Waverly Antique Wax to age the flags and firecrackers, just by applying with a paper towel. I added rusty stars and inked the edges with Ranger Ground Espresso.

I added the sign by using the existing twine, hot glue and fabric strips. I also used the original twine for the hanger, and stapled it on. It worked out ok, so I just hammered the staples in.

And we have a 4th of July decoration that will be a great door hanger!

I hope you enjoyed this craft! It was fun to create. Let me know in the comments what you’re inspired to craft this summer! I appreciate each and every one of you.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
