She’s pretty just as she is, y’all, but we are going to make her stunning!

Supplies:

Amazon: Mod Podge, sanding sponge, Posca paint pens (1.8-2.5 mm and 0.7 mm) Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: Gypsy Green, White Wax

Walmart: Waverly Antique Wax

Tractor Supply: Wrapping paper

Let’s make it!

I used wrapping paper and hymnal sheets for mine. You can use scrapbook paper, old book pages, paint, whatever you want to try! Remember, they don’t have to be Christmas themed, and would be perfect on display all year, so just make them your own.

TIP: My hymnal sheets are for crafting, but you can copy a music sheet if you don’t want to use the original page.

Before you take it all apart, you might want to label the pieces with the paint colors or the patterned paper you want to use. When you’re ready to place your pieces, the base is engraved, so it’s kinda like a puzzle and easy to know where everything goes.

I have Posca paint pens from Amazon (linked in the supply list above), and I’ve used both packs for various projects. You can use them to dot your painted pieces if you wish. (These range in size from 1.8-2.5 mm to a finer point of 0.7 mm).

I chose my shapes, then painted them with Mod Podge. Next, I just laid the paper over them (give them some room in between each other), pressed down and trimmed them apart. Then I sanded the edges. You can see in the last photo that I did the same thing for the hymnal paper.

For the tiny pieces along the edge, I used painters tape to hold them still while I put Mod Podge on them. Next, I put some pieces of the wrapping paper on them and repeated the previous steps: press down, trim the paper, then sand a bit.

I used Gypsy Green from Debi’s Design Diary to paint those arrow shapes. I sanded them down just a bit and placed them on the base.

Do you see that dark spot on one of the star pieces? It was distracting, so I just covered it again with some more red wrapping paper. Easy peasy, y’all!

Speaking of changing things up… I painted the corners with Waverly Antique Wax but they were pretty dark, as you can see in the first two images. I applied White Wax from Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint and toned it down.

TIP: You can use your heat tool to help dry your painted pieces faster, or you can set them aside to dry.

I decided to keep the outside ring natural, so I used Clear Wax from Debi’s Design Diary to seal it. I loved the lighter green on those arrow shapes, but I had to add wax to them because some of the wax dripped on one. It will actually be better, because the wood will be sealed. It’s still a win, y’all!

To finish, I used my DAP super glue to adhere the pieces onto the base. I’m using DAP because if I used hot glue, the glue would dry lumpy and the pieces would not be flat against the base.

I first lined up the outer ring and clipped clothespins around it to keep it in place. Then I glued each piece and followed the lines on the base.

I’m really happy with how this turned out, y’all!

From start to finish, this was so much fun to create!

Let me know in the comments how you would finish your Barn Quilt. Would it be seasonal, or all year round? I read all of your comments and appreciate each one!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
