Hey girl, hey! Are y’all ready for spring? I sure am. We had a beautiful day here in Washington state so I decided to craft outside on my porch. When I say “outside”, I mean where chickens, ducks and bunnies live in our yard, so what better occasion to create the Erin Elizabeth Inspired Woodshop Bunny and Chick Pair kit? Today is the final day of our February Woodshop launch. Click HERE for the link to see all the kits!
Special guests on my video today are two of our baby chickens we raised from eggs! Their breed is called Kikiriki, so we call one Kiki and the other Riki. Our friend Theresa actually flew to Washington to bring the eggs to us, and we were excited to follow all the steps to incubate and hatch our little chicks. The bigger ones that hatched are already in the main coop, but these two tiny breeds are still under close watch until the weather warms up. I’m probably going to get another coop just for them… will see!
Check out the video below (seriously, because: chickens!) or follow along here on the blog to see all the steps.

Supplies:

Erin Elizabeth Inspired Woodshop: Bunny and Chick Pair

Walmart: Waverly Antique Wax
Let’s make it!
Before we begin, I need you to know about those two chickens, the kikirikis. I brought their sweet little selves out of the house so they could get some sun and fresh air. We are keeping them inside (and no, I won’t do that again, but they were born in winter and needed extra care). But as you can see, one of them almost took me out. I know, I know, it’s a small bird, but y’all! Just look at how he’s looking at me in that second image, clearly planning his attack! He even flew over my head and me without a clue! I realized later it’s clear he just wants to be my emotional support chicken.
PSA: No chickens or crafters were injured in this escapade.

Let’s look a little closer…..

Chicken drama over, let’s get back to our craft! I began painting the surfaces at the same time. I’m using two shades of yellow (dark and light) from Deco Earth paints for the egg and Apple Barrel white for the bunny.
I also had a meeting with Riki, and we agreed he would not fly into my hair like a pterodactyl. It’s ok. I’m ok. He promised he was just interested in the craft.
I used Deco Earth pink paint for the flowers on both projects and orange for the chick’s beak. I stained the flower centers with Waverly Antique Wax, then went on to stain the glasses and outline / frames.

I used one of my Toolie Art black paint pens to paint the eyes on both, and I put little pink circles for their cheeks. I also used Stick Fast (thick) glue to adhere the pieces onto the surface. I ran out of Stick Fast, so I used wood glue to add wood blocks to the backs of the projects. This will make them stand.
TIP: When you glue the flowers on, make sure they don’t extend past the bottom of the bunny or chick.

It’s a beautiful, sunshiny day and crafting on the porch makes it even better! Here are our Bunny and Chick Pair, just waiting for spring. I love, love, love the glasses, y’all!

Before we go, here are three finished kits from this month’s launch! The Happy Easter Bunny Wall Decor , the Floral Picture Wall Art and the Easter Bunny Shelf Sitter. To see the whole collection, check out the Woodshop HERE.
There’s also this Frame and Carrots Garland kit! I am planning on making it a garland, but there are five pieces that you can also use as tags! (One of the pieces is hiding, it’s a bunny!)

Let me know in the comments how you might style your Bunny and Chick Pair! On a shelf? In a basket? Or how about as a gift? I appreciate each and every one of you.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
XOXO-Erin
