Farmhouse Witchy Hat Made From Dollar Tree Supplies!

Hey girl, hey! Let’s make a cute witchy hat using a ribbon tree, frame and other supplies from the Dollar Tree! I’m also using packing paper from an Amazon box.

Check out the video below or follow along here on the blog for all the steps.

Supplies:

Dollar Tree: Wood frame, ribbon Christmas tree, plastic plate for base Note: you can use any flat something for the base, use a cone shape instead of the tree, anything goes with this project!

Lizzy and Erin Designs: Custom Lil Hickabilly paint brush

Amazon: Ranger Distress Oxide ink: Ground Espresso, Mod Podge, Gator Microzip sander, Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint: Faded Burlap, White Swan

Stash: Amazon packing paper, thick paper, burlap ribbon, checked ribbon, raffia, greenery

Let’s make it!

So I wanted to use a thin cardstock but I used what I had, which is thin cardboard. I spritzed it with water and began hot gluing it to the “tree”. I trimmed the end and hot glued the cardboard edge inside the bottom.

I painted Mod Podge onto the plate with my Custom Lil Hickabilly paint brush and then covered it with some paper I had previously painted, adding another coat of Mod Podge over the top of the paper.

I used my Gator Microzip Sander to trim the paper from the edge of the plate and dried the paper with my heat tool.

I used packing paper from an Amazon order to add trim to the hat. The paper was thick, so I tore it through the middle then began twisting it and gluing it to the hat. I continued making rows of twisted paper until I got to the top, then melted the glue strings with my heat tool. Next, I painted it with Debi’s Design Diary Faded Burlap from Milton’s Daughter.

I also used White Swan from Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint on the hat

I added ribbon by layering a narrower one over the burlap one for the trim. I then began painting the buckle (small wood frame from Dollar Tree). I had a vision, y’all. Ok, maybe ten visions, or twelve! BUT it came together in the end… maybe for the trash can, but stick with me, girl!

So I first used my Ranger Distress Oxide Ink in Ground Espresso to darken the buckle, then cut the bottom off because you can’t see it anyway. I eventually painted it black (you’ll see that shortly). I heard the struggle bus roll up at the driveway but I hid from it! We can do this!

Yes, that white flower is hanging by a glue thread. It’s hard to be me.

The vision I had for this project might need glasses! Is this a project for the chicken coop? I mean, they need some seasonal decorations too, right?

Trying this, then that! Maybe we should pluck it all off and make a cornucopia? Girl, I’m committed that this witch hat is going to happen! I bent the top of the hat, added color, added a halloween ribbon (our friends had lots of suggestions!), tried one thing, then another, and by some miracle, I finished it!

I make all the mistakes so you don’t have to! Our YouTube is named “Flawed to Perfection”, and this is why! Enjoy the process! I mean, she turned out cute after all is said and done, and we had FUN most of all!

Let me know in the comments what you think of our witch hat made from Dollar Tree and stash supplies! I appreciate all of your comments!

XOXO-Erin
