Dollar Tree Upcycle Easter Carrot Sign

Hey y’all, hey! This one is so cute, girl! I’m upcycling a Dollar Tree sign and giving it new life. Check out the video below, or follow along here on the blog for all the steps!

Supplies:

Dollar Tree: Carrots “Happy Easter” sign, 11X14 canvas, craft sticks

Hobby Lobby: Orange burlap, striped ribbon

Amazon: Sanding sponge, Waverly Antique Wax, Distress Oxide Ink: Ground Espresso, Deco Earth moss green and orange paint, Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Walmart: Beads

Stash: Thin wood strips, greenery

Let’s make it!

Before we begin, check out these adorable rice papers from Milton’s Daughter! I didn’t use them in this craft, but I just HAD to let y’all see the cuteness!

I’m using this Easter carrot sign from Dollar Tree. I actually made the surface for another project, but decided to use it today. It’s just an 11X14 canvas (you can get them at Dollar Tree) and thin wood strips glued over it.

I heated up the glue on the carrots so I could remove the top carrot and separate it from the bottom two. I used my Xacto knife to cut the bottom carrots apart. It took several scores to go through what may be particle board (it’s like a heavy cardboard).

I trimmed the carrots a little with my scissors and then sanded the edges to smooth them out. I also sanded the surfaces of the carrots to remove the glitter and some of the paint.

I used Deco Earth orange paint to cover the carrots, then dried them with my heat tool.

Next, I cut strips of burlap and hot glued them to the carrots, then trimmed the edges. I used my Distress Oxide ink (Ground Espresso) to give the carrots definition by running the ink pad along the edges of the burlap.

I could see some of the white canvas board behind my slats, so I painted on Waverly Antique Wax to cover it.

I hot glued the carrots onto the surface and then painted over the green tops with Deco Earth moss green, then dried it with my heat tool.

I hot glued some greenery and raffia….

…but it still needed a bow with a button and a little tag to finish, and a beaded hanger on back. I wrote Carrot Seeds 5 cents on the tag with a fine point marker.

To finish, I made a hanger with beads, and hot glued the ends to the back of the sign and added a piece of craft stick on the back over each bead string for extra security.

TIP: Count the beads and use an even number so your project will hang evenly.

I hope you enjoyed this craft! I really enjoy crafting for spring. Let me know in the comments what inspires you to create! I appreciate each and every one of you.

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
