Dollar Tree Reversed Canvas: Oh Happy Day!

Hey girl, hey! This project is dedicated to our minimalist friends who love just a bit of crafting without going for all the details. Y’all know who you are! My assistant Judie will love this one!

Check out the video below or follow along here for all of the minimal steps! (See what I did there?)

Supplies:

Amazon: Xacto knife, Mod Podge, Waverly Antique Wax, sanding sponge Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Dollar Tree: 12 X 12 canvas, Tumbling Tower blocks (like little Jengas)

Walmart: Magnetic letters (you might also find some at the Dollar Tree)

Michaels: “The Avenue” by Recollections scrapbook paper

Let’s make it!

I’m holding the Dollar Tree version of a letterboard. You can craft with these or make your own larger one with the 12 X 12 canvas!

I started out by using my Xacto knife to cut the canvas away from the frame, then pulled the cut edge away and removed any staples left. Next, I painted the frame with Waverly Antique Wax and since it was a dark coat, I wet a paper towel and rubbed some off just to lighten it. I dried it with my heat tool.

These are magnetic letters, but any letters will do. I got these at Walmart, but you might also find them at the Dollar Tree. I decided on this paper from a Michael’s Recollection paper pad called “The Avenue”. I put Mod Podge on the back of the scrapbook paper and smoothed it onto the canvas. It’s a little bit of a thicker paper, so I used my small iron and heat tool to flatten the edges.

I wanted my canvas to be tight, so I hot glued the bottom, and then both sides at the same time. I finished attaching it by gluing the top part onto the frame.

I put the letters on masking tape and sanded them to give them a distressed look, then I glued the Tumbling Towers game blocks (like little Jenga blocks) to create lines under the letters. I painted them with Waverly and wiped some of the paint off with a wet paper towel.

I glued the letters onto the surface, adding a “line” underneath each one.

And here is our “minimalist” craft! Let me know in the comments what you would “say” on yours!

I hope you enjoyed this craft! Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
