Dollar Tree Pumpkin Makeover

Hey girl, hey! I saw this on TikTok and had to try it. Can you believe most of these supplies came from Dollar Tree? It’s so much fun to create with affordable little treasures like this.

Check out the video below or follow along here on the blog!

Supplies:

Dollar Tree: Foam pumpkins, moss, beads garland (berries), stems, greenery, gems

Stash: wooden candlestick (I’m not sure where I found this, but Dollar Tree has glass candlesticks that can be painted), greenery

Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: Apothecary, White Swan, Faded Burlap

Let’s make it!

The one on the left is what we are starting with, the one on the right is what I’m going for, but I’ll add more to it!

These Dollar Tree gems are in strips and glued together. Cut left to right rather than top to bottom so you’ll have a full strip of them to adhere to the pumpkin. One pack will do one pumpkin with a little left over.

I mean, it’s beautiful just like this!

I’m painting with Faded Burlap from Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint.

TIP: You could paint first, then add the gems if you want the glam look!

These are foam pumpkins, so if you use a heat tool to dry yours, keep it moving! They can melt!

Meanwhile, the one on the left is Apothecary, the right is Faded Burlap. But… we aren’t finished yet!

We will start with the one painted with Apothecary.

I dampened my brush with water, then painted on some Faded Burlap, then wiped it off. This is a subtle effect, but really adds interest and depth.

TIP: Work in small sections at a time so your paint doesn’t dry before you can wipe it off.

I’m doing the same with the Faded Burlap, but using White Swan to highlight the creases.

Every pumpkin needs a stem, right?

I pulled off the “stems” that came on the pumpkins. They are just foam, and easy to remove.

I poked my scissors into the top (these pumpkins are hollow inside), then hot glued the wooden stem (from Dollar Tree) onto the top.

Next, I added raffia, greenery and berry garland to my pumpkin, and also added some moss and greenery to my candlestick.

TIP: To create a squiggly vine, wrap your garland around something like a paintbrush handle, then just slide it off.

And now we have our finished project! I love how this turned out, and there are so many different ways to style it. You might use a doily or paint a charger… just let those ideas flow!

Let me know in the comments what you think of this project! I appreciate each and every one of you.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

XOXO-Erin
