Dollar Tree Diy Gnomes

I’m sure everyone has seen all the Gnomes floating around on Pinterest. I have to admit I wasn’t a big fan of the whole gnome thing, until I realized I could put them together with all Dollar Tree supplies. We all know that means CHEAP and we love cheap!

Here’s all the supplies needed to create these adorable Gnomes, and everything is from Dollar Tree:

  • rag mop head
  • pair of socks (I used the thicker winter ones)
  • styrofoam cone
  • one wooden bead
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks

OK, so now that we have everything we need, lets put all this cuteness together.

  1. First you will need to cut all the strands off your mop head. Lay them in a nice pile and then grab your styrofoam cone and heat up the hot glue gun.
  2. I started my folding a mop strand in half and then gluing the folded part of my mop to the middle of my styrofoam cone and just work your way all the way around the cone.
  3. Then flip your cone over and glue another layer of mop strands to your cone, right under the first row. (this is just to make his beard fuller and to keep the cone from showing)
  4. Grab one of your socks and push the toe part into the sock, this will add some bulk to his head.
  5. Now he needs a little nose, so hot glue your wooden bead right at the brim of his hat (sock)
  6. The last thing I did was unravel my mop strands. You dont have to do this part, but I liked the look it gave my Gnomes beard.

I loved how mine turned and I loved even more that it only cost me $3 to make. You just cant beat that yall!

I hope you enjoyed this cheap and easy craft. If you end up creating some, we’d love to see your little gnomes, so send us some pics. We love seeing what our friends create!

Here’s a link to our live video tutorial, to show you step by step how the gnomes came together. https://www.facebook.com/lizzyanderin/videos/382827555951530/

Lots of Love, ERIN

Edited to add step by step instructions on how to turn the dollar tree men’s scarves into gnome hats if you can’t find the socks.

Cut a 12 inch piece of the scarf (or fabric of your choice.

Put a bead of glue down one side of the scarf.

Fold the scarf over and press down creating a seam.

Turn the material inside out so the seam is on the inside.

Put the hat on your gnome with the seam in the back and tie off the top just like with the sock.

One mop head from Dollar Tree will make two gnomes.
