Creating Elegance With Dollar Tree Stacking Pumpkins

Hey y’all, hey! This project is STUNNING for your decor! It’s hard to believe this started out as three plastic orange pumpkins, but here we are! Our friend Ms. Blanche Reynolds sent this set to me, and I’m so excited to craft with them.

Check out the video below, or follow along here on the blog for all the steps.

Supplies:

Dollar Tree: Mini stackable pumpkins, candlestick, moss, greenery

Amazon: Rub n Buff Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Stash: Napkins, berry garland (Hobby Lobby has berry garland)

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY paint: White Swan, Hey Sailor (dark blue), Faded Burlap and Apothecary

Walmart: Waverly Antique Wax

Let’s make it!

The pumpkins at Dollar Tree are sold stacked inside the biggest one (like the picture below), so look for just one pumpkin rather than the tall set.

These napkins, y’all! I think it was our friend Ms. Lisa who either used blue napkins or suggested them, and I found these in my stash. I think our friend Ms. Cathy Jackson sent these to me.

TIP:If you can’t find the small stacked pumpkins, look for the bigger ones. They may have some in the $5 section.

I used my White Swan from Debi’s Design Diary (link in supply list) to paint each pumpkin, then dried them with my heat tool, and added a second coat.

Honestly, y’all, they are pretty just painted white and stacked up!

TIP: Always be careful with heat tools and plastic. The plastic can warp or melt.

I separated the layers of my napkin, then cut the napkin into strips (suggested by our friend Ms. Cheryl).

For the big pumpkin, I painted Mod Podge on small sections and then placed the strips of the napkin over the Mod Podge, then repeated the process. I added more Mod Podge over the napkin once it was on the pumpkin.

It’s looking beautiful, y’all!

For the next two, I used Hey Sailor for the middle one and a mix of Faded Burlap, White Swan and Apothecary for the top one.

I spritzed the blue one with water, then dry brushed White Swan over it, removing any extra white paint with a paper towel until I got the light blue color I was going for. I did the same process for the top one, just to tone it down a little.

I also cut some of the flowers from the napkin and used Mod Podge to glue them onto the small pumpkin. Next, I put Mod Podge all over each one to be sure they sealed well.

I thought I might use a cork round to put between the bottom pumpkin and the candlestick, but decided to cut a piece of cardboard instead. I just hot glued it to the bottom of the largest pumpkin, then painted it white.

TIP: A white doily would be cute on the base!

Now for the greenery! Using hot glue, I put some greenery, moss and pieces of berry garland on the candlestick, then added the same in between each pumpkin. (You can’t really see the moss on the candlestick once the pumpkin goes on, but it added stability to the project.)

I painted the stem on the top pumpkin with a little Waverly Antique Wax.

To finish, I added Rub n Buff (see Amazon link in supply list above) to the candlestick.

TIP: You might consider putting tiny holes in the pumpkins and add fairy lights!

There are so many options for these pumpkins! Let me know in the comments how you might create yours! I appreciate each and every one of you.

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
