Hey y’all, hey! Today we are turning a Dollar Tree placemat into a Christmas tree scroll! Check out the video for all the details or follow along here on the blog.

Supplies:
Dollar Tree: placemat (You can also use starched or stiff fabric)
Stash: Macrame cording (yarn might be better), shutter slats (paint sticks will work just fine!)
Amazon: Scrabble letter, Hair bead threader, 20mm half wood beads, rusty star Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)
Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: White Swan
Walmart: Waverly Antique Wax
Let’s make it!
I wrapped my cording five times around my hands, held it near the top, and then I tied it. I cut the long ends open and then trimmed the ends until they were even.

These wood slats came from a thrifted shutter, but you can use paint sticks for yours.
I just glued on the half wood beads (20mm, linked above from Amazon), then painted the slats with White Swan from Debi’s Design Diary. I dried them with my heat tool and sanded them down just a little.

To install the slats, I just used hot glue. I first put glue on the back slat and pressed my fabric over it. In the second picture, you’ll see I added glue to the fabric to hold the top slat.
I added more glue where the slats and fabric meet just to keep it secure.

This little rusty star came from a bag from Amazon. I’ll have rusty stars from now on! I used little lettered beads inside the high middle part of the star to have something to glue to.
I attached my tassels with hot glue, being sure to center them on my project.
For the stump, I just painted two coats of Waverly Antique Wax onto a large Scrabble tile. I wanted it to be about the same color tone as my star.

This bead stringer is the best, y’all! You just put one knot on one end of your twine, load the beads onto the stringer, then put the twine through the little oval opening.
Next, you just pull the beads onto the twine. Once the beads are on, you just pull the loose strand of twine through all of the beads, and you have a beaded hanger!

To add the hanger, I knotted both ends of my twine, put the end into a little puddle of hot glue, then added a craft stick on top for extra security.

And here’s our finished project! I love how this came together!
TIP: You can make these for all seasons. Think of adding wood cutouts, applique…. the sky’s the limit!

One more thing: our chickens are giving us eggs like these! They are such good girls!

I hope you enjoyed our project today. Let me know in the comments what you might create with this idea!
Thanks so much for stopping by,
XOXO-Erin
