Bonnie The Bunny For An Early Spring

Hey girl, hey! A forecast for snow here in Washington state has me wishing for spring, so we are doing our first Easter craft for 2025! I think you’ll enjoy this one, I sure did!

And by the way, February is ALREADY here (can y’all believe it?) and we are doing our February Woodshop Launch next week! Be sure to follow us to see this amazing release, because it’s big y’all!

Check out the video below, or follow along here to make Bonnie the Bunny your own!

Supplies:

Dollar Tree: Tumbling Tower Game blocks, Round wood surface with feet, round detailed frame, chunky wood bunny, moss

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: White Swan

Hobby Lobby: Napkin

Amazon: Xacto knife, orange Deco Earth paint, Mod Podge, Waverly Antique Wax, DAP Rapid Fuse glue, sanding sponge Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)

Stash: Greenery, beads for carrot, twine, button

Gifted: Flower from our friend Ms. Lisa

Let’s make it!

But first, here are some fun crafts we’ve made from the Dollar Tree stacking Easter eggs, and a Valentine project! About the eggs: (That pineapple, y’all… it’s a funny story!) The mug has “hot cocoa and marshmallows”, the bunny was going to be all three eggs, but two worked better. We made the mug in our subscription group, but you can see the bunny HERE.

The Valentine hearts are from Dollar Tree, and we made this in our subscription group. I think I’m going to change out the Bingo cards and put pictures in their place. I love this project!

Now for our craft! I painted the base and bunny with White Swan, then dried them with my heat tool and gave them a light sanding. Painting them white before using a napkin for decoupage keeps the wood from showing through the napkin layer.

Next, I painted the round frame with Waverly Antique Wax and glued it to the surface with DAP Rapid Fuse glue.

TIP: I use DAP (or other super glues) when I don’t want the space that hot glue makes between items.

I made some carrots by stringing graduated sizes of beads onto twine, then painted them with two coats of Waverly Antique Wax. I used two coats to fully cover the white beads. There are a couple more steps to come on these carrots, because we’re not completely finished with them yet, so stay tuned! LOL!

This bunny is so cute, y’all. I painted both sides white, then painted them with Mod Podge. I separated the two-ply napkins and just used the top layers to cover the front and back.

My friends suggested I use this technique to trim the napkin from the project, so here we go: I cut most of the excess off with scissors, then used a lighter to burn the napkin to the edges. If you are going to do the whole burning step, be sure to have water, a firehose, an extinguisher or if you happen to have one, a hot fireman right by your side!

Once the napkin was trimmed, I used my sanding sponge to smooth it out. I also used my Xacto knife to trim out the tiny part under her paw.

Next, I used the same brush with the Waverly Antique Wax to dry brush some stain on the edges. I didn’t stain the back because I liked both sides.

For the base, I hot glued a mix of Spanish moss and a greener, grass-looking moss to the surface so the bunny can sit in the carrot patch. I also added in some greenery.

Once I decided which side to use (I settled on the stained side), I hot glued a Tumbling Tower Game block from Dollar Tree (it’s like a small Jenga block) to the base of the bunny to help her stand in place. Next, I hot glued her onto the surface and covered the block with moss.

I hot glued some greenery to the top of the wood bead carrots, which made them very carrot-like! Our friends suggested painting them with orange, so I used Deco Earth paint to stain them. I just spritzed water into the lid of the paint to get a hint of a stain, then wiped most of it off while they were still wet and dried them with my heat tool.

I gave her a bow made of twine and added a button. Our friend Ms. Lisa gave me some flowers and I used one of the bigger ones to add to the base. It was just the right color for this craft!

She’s so pretty, y’all! I named her Bonnie, like the bunny in our yard. I might have to keep her out all spring.

Let me know what you think of our craft today, and what you are crafting for Easter or spring! I appreciate all of you!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

XOXO-Erin
