Lizzy and Erin Woodshop: Ornate Oval Frame, Flower Pickin’ Fun For Mom and Heart of the Family

Milton’s Daughter: Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint: Petticoat Pink and Mint Chip

Let’s make it!

This is the frame I used on the bunny head, and y’all wanted one, so here it is! Click on the picture to see the blog post.

My husband Dave cut it to fit in a shipping box, and it measures a whopping 22″ X 17 1/4″! The inside area is 14″ X 10 1/4″. You can see in the images that the layers alternate as you add them!

Dave said to start by adding the top to the middle, then the middle to the center pieces. I used Stick Fast glue to adhere them, rather than hot glue because hot glue is clumpy and your layers will need to be flat against each other. DAP Rapid Fuse glue is also a good wood-to-wood glue. I also use clothespins to clamp the pieces together while the glue dries.

TIP: If you want your background to be a different color, paint it before gluing the layers on.

And now for the Flower Pickin’ Fun for Mom: I just stained it with Waverly Antique Wax. The holes are for placing wildflowers that the kids can discover outside with mom!

Now for the Heart of the Family:

First, I painted the small pieces on the sticky side of masking tape. I used Debi’s Design Diary Petticoat Pink and Deco Earth’s Moss Green and Cool Gray.

Then I used Waverly White to paint the background and Mint Chip for the frame layers. You can see the outline of where you will place the words, which are backward because Facebook is acting up!

I used my Stick Fast glue to adhere the pieces, then clothespins (like I used on the frame) to hold them together till they dried.

I sanded the pieces down just a bit and dry brushed over everything, then glued the letters and flowers on.

And here’s our finished project! I hope you enjoyed these crafts today, I sure did! Be sure to check out the Lizzy and Erin Woodshop and let me know in the comments what YOUR favorite project is!
