Hey girl, hey! We are going to make a quickie craft today, and since it’s July, we’re making a special Christmas in July project!
Check out the video below, or just follow along here on the blog for all the steps.

Supplies:

Dollar Tree: Lantern, metal candlestick, Gather Here sign, “Merry” snowflake ornament
Hobby Lobby: Red checked placemat (Spring Shop clearance a few years ago).
Amazon: Self adhesive Velcro, black acrylic alphabet letter beads Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)
Stash: Red ribbon, raffia
Let’s make it!
Check out that lantern, y’all! It shines bright, not like the kind of light that is a dull yellow; it’s vibrant! But here’s the thing: the on / off switch is on the bottom, so our friends on our live helped me figure out how to make it accessible. Here are some of the ideas: fill the top of the candlestick with either floral foam, Styrofoam, wood block or a bird nest.
I used floral foam and hot glued a wood round on to the top so I could add a piece of Velcro (also suggested from our friends!) on the wood round and on the bottom of the lantern.
TIP: That hot glue is HOT on metal, y’all! Just use something to press everything down until the glue sets up. I used my floral foam knife and also a metal painter’s tool.

Here’s the self adhesive Velcro on the lantern. Keep in mind that you want the pieces to line up! What I had to do was to lock the second piece of Velcro onto the first piece, THEN stick it onto the candlestick. Boom! It worked!

I put a spot of hot glue on the top of the candlestick to hold the ribbon in place, then just tied a simple bow.

I used the Dollar Tree “Gather here” sign, the snowflake “Merry” ornament (also from Dollar Tree) and the red checked placemat for this next project. See that black and white ribbon? Yep, we’re keeping that!

For the background, I just traced the sign onto the placemat, then cut along the lines. There were some strings, so I just trimmed those. There was also a backing like a stabilizer on the fabric and I just peeled that off.
Next, I put hot glue along the front of the sign, smoothed out the fabric and put everything back in the frame.
TIP: Hot glue the front, not the outside edges of the sign so you won’t have extra bulk when trying to fit it back into the frame.

These alphabet letter beads from Amazon are just the right size to pop the ornament up from our surface.
I just glued one on the inside of each of the ornament edges and then put a spot of hot glue on them to adhere it to the surface.

I added a little raffia and a red button to my bow, and we’re done!

Two quick projects that will be beautiful displayed together or separately! Let me know in the comments what you think! I appreciate each and every one of you.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
XOXO-Erin
